NBA D-LEAGUE FINALS -- Santa Cruz Warriors beat Mad Ants, take Game 1

PhilBoxing.com

FORT WAYNE -- In a rematch of last year's NBA D-League Finals, the Santa Cruz Warriors came back from a large first half deficit to beat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants Monday night. A crowd of 3,318 swarmed the ant hill at Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne to watch their defending champions take on the Warriors.

The Mad Ants started strong out of the gates, running up at 34-22 lead at the end of the first quarter. They led by as many as 20 points at one time, making 6 of 12 three point field goals during the quarter. From then, Santa Cruz slowly built their come back.

Still trailing at the half, the Warriors took advantage of 59.1% shooting in the third quarter and out scored the Mad Ants 33-23, and had the lead going into the fourth. From there, they withstood a late game run by the Ants and would hold on for the win.

Santa Cruz was led by starting guard Elliot Williams, who had 31 points and 8 assists. Forward Mychel Thompson contributed 24 points and center Ognjen Kuzmic notched a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Veteran forward Ramon Harris led Fort Wayne with 30 points and made 8 of his 13 three point attempts. Jordan Crawford also had a double-double with 24 points and 11 assists.

Santa Cruz defeated the Austin Spurs in game 3 of their series to to the finals, while Fort Wayne handled the Canton Charge. The Mad Ants had been undefeated in their 2015 playoff campaign. The best of three series moves to Santa Cruz on Sunday, with a game three on Monday if necessary.
