NBA -- Wizards demolish Hornets, 95-69 By Eric Biasbas PhilBoxing.com Wed, 11 Mar 2015 ![]() CHARLOTTE -- The Washington Wizards started the game like a house on fire and went on to drub the Charlotte Hornets, 95-69 on Monday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena. Led by John Wall, the Wizards stormed to a 15 point lead at the end of the first quarter (36-21) and never looked back, snapping the Hornets' five game winning streak. "We just played team defense and we moved the ball offensively and a lot of guys got shots", Wall said. "We got back to playing the way we were playing early in the season." Hornets' head coach Steve Clifford said, "Their better players were on attack early. The game was really over in the first quarter. We gave up three coast to coast to John Wall." The Hornets' offensive game which was very impressive during the streak was nowhere to be found this time. They shot a dismal 32.5 percent from the field (25-of-77) while the Wizards shot 51.8 percent (44-of-85). The Wizards also limited the Hornets to only 9 points in the fourth quarter. Clifford said, "We played a tired game. We never found the energy level we would need to make a real run at the game." The Hornets played their sixth game in nine days but big man, Al Jefferson refused to use that as an excuse. " That's why you are paid the big bucks. No matter how tired we are, we can't afford a game like the one we had. They were more ready then we were. The better team won. We just didn't have it." ![]() Marcin Gortat led the Wizards in scoring with 20 points. Wall had 15 points and nine assists while Bradley Beal added 14 points. Eastern Conference player of the week, Mo Williams had 19 points and 7 assists for the Hornets. Jefferson added 14 points while Lance Stephenson contributed 12 points off the bench. The Wizards (36-28) remained in the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference while the Hornets (28-34) hang on to the eight spot.
