NBA -- Nets fall flat against Hornets, 115-91

BROOKLYN -- The Brooklyn Nets fell flat in a 115-91 loss to the visiting Charlotte Hornets at the Barclays Center on Wednesday night.
It was an important game for both teams as they shared identical records of 25-33 with the winner grabbing the Eastern Conference?s tightly contested eighth spot.
The Hornets got off to a blazing start, shooting 65% from the field, and ended the first quarter 35-15. Brooklyn tried to answer back and got the lead down to 12 by the end of the first half. However, their efforts were not enough as Charlotte brought the lead back up to 20 and cruised to the final buzzer.
The scoring came in bunches for the Hornets, highlighted by Al Jefferson and Gerald Henderson?s 19 points apiece. Mo Williams, starting in place of the still injured Kemba Walker, had 14 points and 14 assists. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
?I felt like the team that wanted it more was going to win the game? said Mo Williams after the game.
The Nets looked like a different team compared to the team that beat the Golden State Warriors on Monday night. Deron Williams was the team?s leading scorer with 12 points. Mason Plumlee and Bojan Bogdanovic had 11 points each. The rest of the team struggled as the Nets shot less than 40% from the field and 18.8% from deep.
?They shot lights out in that first quarter, put our backs against the wall and didn?t let up? said Deron Williams.
Brooklyn hopes to turn things around as they host the Phoenix Suns on Friday night while Charlotte hopes to maintain their hold on the final playoff spot against the Toronto Raptors. (BP)
