NBA -- Thunder strikes Hornets, 110-103 By Eric Biasbas PhilBoxing.com Mon, 23 Feb 2015 ![]() CHARLOTTE -- Russell Westbrook scored 33 points, dished 10 assists and grabbed seven rebounds to propel the Oklahoma City Thunder over the struggling Charlotte Hornets, 110-103, in front of a sold out crowd at the Time Warner Cable Arena on Saturday night. The Thunder, who won their fifth straight, led by as many as 12 in the second half but the Hornets managed to tie the count at 94-all. The Thunder then went on an 8-0 spurt as Westbrook led the way, scoring almost at will with his acrobatic driving lay ups. With 2:41 left, Westbrook set up newly acquired DJ Agustin for a triple that buried the Hornets, 107-98. " I take pride in leadership." Westbrook said. "Part of my job is to be a leader, to lead these new guys and guys that are already here and try to win us games." The Thunder bench was a huge factor, outscoring the Hornets' bench, 43-20. The Thunder also outmuscled the Hornets on the boards, 59-41. Veteran point guard Mo Williams had a superb debut for the Hornets with 24 points, including a 5-for-10 fare from beyond the 3-point arc. He also had 12 assists. "Coach gave me a lot of freedom. That made it real easy for me to just go out and play" Williams said. "Hopefully, next games we'll continue to get better. Get to know my teammates better, know what their strengths are." ![]() Another new acquisition, Enes Kanter had a double-double, 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Thunder. Agustin had 12 points while Serge Ibaka finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Al Jefferson had 20 points and 12 rebounds in a losing cause. Michael Kidd Gilchrist also had 20 points while Cody Zeller netted 13 points. The Hornets' fourth consecutive loss dropped them in a tie with the Brooklyn Nets for the 8th playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Thunder, meanwhile, maintained its hold of the 8th seed in the Western Conference. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Eric Biasbas. ![]() |
