CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Cavaliers jumped to a 20-12 start and never looked back en route to a 105-94 thrashing of the visiting Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night at the Quicken Loans Arena here in downtown Cleveland.
After struggling with his shot of late, Kevin Love rediscovered his shooting touch and went 6-for-14 from the field for 24 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds and dished three assists as all five of Cleveland's starters finished with double figures in points.
LeBron James carded 23 and nine assists while J.R. Smith had 16 points with four 3s. Center Timofey Mozgoc tallied 12 points and nine rebounds and Kyrie Irving added 10 and four assists. Cleveland shot 31 of 72 from the field and 8-of-30 from 3-point range.
With their 12th consecutive victory, the Cavaliers improved to 31-20 and moved up to third place overall in the Eastern Conference.
Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 16 points and eight rebounds while Jamal Crawford accounted for 13, but ace point guard Chris Paul was held to only 10 points. Paul dished nine assists and grabbed two boards with one steal, but he made just four of 14 shots.
"We got our butts kicked," L.A. Clippers head coach Doc Rivers told reporters during his postgame press conference,
The Cavs led 30-20 after one quarter of play and 65-42 at the halftime break. They stretched the advantage to as many as 32 points.
With their second loss in as many games, the Clippers dropped to 33-17, fifth place overall in the tough Western Conference.
