NEW YORK -- The Boston Celtics handled the New York Knicks, 108-97, on Tuesday night at the Madison Square Garden.
Using a 16-6 run to open the game, the Celtics led wire-to-wire and improved to 17-30, crawling to within 3.5 games off a playoffs berth in a weak Eastern Conference.
Avery Bradley led Boston with a game-high 26 points while Jared Sullinger added 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Marcus Smart and Jae Crowder pitched in 13 each for Boston, which shot a high 54.5 percent from the field (42 of 77).
"We talked about what you do well and try not to overdo it... I thought they played well on both ends" Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said.
Carmelo Anthony paced the Knicks with 21 points on 9-of-23 shooting. Jose Calderon carded 17 points while Tim Hardaway Jr contributed 14 off the bench. Jason Smith added 12 points and seven rebounds and five assists.
"We didn't have it from an energy standpoint and Boston beat us tonight," Anthony told reporters after the game.
The Celtics head back home to host the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. The Knicks, meanwhile, get several days off before facing the Nets in Brooklyn on Friday.
