AdU Women's Softball, UST Men's Baseball Lead in UAAP

PhilBoxing.com

Title-defending Adamson University and University of Santo Tomas mangled separate opponents in their continued quest for their place in history in the UAAP women?s softball and men?s baseball, respectively, over the weekend at the decades old Rizal memorial ballpark.

The Adamson Lady Falcons cruised to their 50th straight triumph in four years, the most by any team since softball was introduced in the varsity league calendar in the 50s, downed University of the Philippines, 8-1, in an abbreviated four and-a-half innings and appeared ready to duplicate their predecessors' streak of five title-conquest fashioned out from 2005 to 2009.
The Blue Eagles, whose involvement in baseball started only in the late 70s as one of the conditions for admission for transferring from the NCAA to UAAP, took it longer in scoring a 12-1 seven-inning inning stoppage of University of Santo Tomas, 12-2, and, likewise, looked ready to extend their first ever crown victory in 2012 to three straight.

The Lady Falcons of coach Ana Santiago, showed no trace of losing six mainstays of 2014 champion team on graduation, as they steamrolled the Lady Maroons on both sides of the field with short but stocky Annalie Benjamin muzzling the UP batters that crossed her path to only two hits.

A feat complemented by her teammates, led by shortstop Queeny Sabobo, who went two-of-three at bat, including a two-run home run in a mighty five-run Adamson run at the bottom of the second frame. She drove in three runs.

Catcher Clariz Palma, who is in her last year in the UAAP, was a perfect two-for-two and sent two teammates home, the same number tallied by first base girl Florebelle Pabiania.

Solid pitching provided by rookie Juan Paulo Macasaet, likewise, spelled the difference in the Eagles? clean 3-0 start in the six-team baseball tournament. The right-hand power throwing product of Ateneo?s high school baseball development program practically held the Tigers at the palm of his hands with another two-hitter in a six-inning start.

With Macasaet standing 10-feet tall in the mound, Matt Laurel and Ateneo baseball program head Randy Dizer?s murder row had a day feasting on the enemies' first line of defense with 13 hits as they practically lit up the 81-year-old first baseball stadium in Asia with fireworks display.

The loss was the Tigers? first in three times up.

Other softball results saw University of the East, posting its third consecutive triumphs and a grip of temporary leadership with a 3-2 edging of last year?s runner up La Salle, likewise, nosed out basketball arch-rival Ateneo, 3-1, for its second win in three tries, while pushing its victim to 0-3.
