IK YANG STOPS SAKKREERIN IN 4; MA DECISIONS SERRAN

SHANGHAI ? Undefeated Chinese rising star Ik Yang stopped Thai veteran Fahsai Sakkreerin in the 4th round and captured the IBF Pan-Pacific lightweight title in a well attended 'Fist of Fury II' boxing event at the Mercedez-Benz Arena in Pudong Saturday night. The bigger Yang (18-0-0, 13KO) imposed his will and smothered the game but overmatched Sakkreerin (41-6-1, 12KO) who refused to come out in the 5th round after receiving heavy punishment from Yang in round three where Yang sent the Thai to the canvas and in round four where Sakkreerin returned to his corner with a heavily bruised face. All three judges, Salven Lagumbay, Sanong Aum-Im and Edward Ligas gave all the completed rounds to Yang, 40-36.

In the co-main event, Ma Yiming outpointed Tommy Serran of Indonesia over 10 rounds to capture the WBO Asia-Pacific and IBF Pan-Pacific light flyweight title in an entertaining fight where both fighters engaged toe-to-toe in most rounds. Yiming scored the more telling punches while Serran's lack of urgency failed to convince the judges who gave most rounds to Yiming, 98-92, 98-92 and 100-90. Yiming logged his nine straight win to improve his record to 12-5-0 with 7 knockouts while Serran dropped to 25-4-0, 15 knockouts.

IBF world champion Amnat Ruengroeng in Thailand, who will defend his title against Shiming on March 7 in Macau, at ringside during Tuesday's fisticuffs.

Top Rank's Bob Arum, the chief architect of boxing's renaissance in China and who co-promoted Tuesday's event in partnership with SECA, was in attendance. Arum was scheduled to host a press-conference at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, announcing the world title fight between Chinese star Zou Shiming and IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruengroeng of Thailand scheduled on March 7 at The Venetian in Macau.

Meanwhile, Shiming formally accepted the WBO Elite Fighter of Year award from WBO Vice-President Leon Panoncillo Jr Tuesday night in front of the highly appreciative audience who supported the homegrown fighters at the ultra-modern arena.. The award was given to Shiming during the last WBO Convention in Las Vegas last October.
