NBA - Magic top Kings, 105-96, end 6-game road trip at 3-3 By Benson Chiu PhilBoxing.com Mon, 08 Dec 2014 ORLANDO- A lucky shot spelled the difference ``I knew the (shot clock) was down and (Payton) threw me the ball so I figured, `Hey, he wants the assist,??? Magic forward Channing Frye told NBA.com after the game. ``It wasn?t like I had two shots already and I was mad. Give me a second. I?m 7-foot tall and they aren?t going to block my shot. But when (Payton) tipped it to me, I thought the time had gone off so I just wanted to make the make a call.?? Except it wasn't an assist. With just under 3 minutes in the game , under 4 seconds in the shot clock and with Orlando ahead just by two 92-90, Magic rookie Elfrid Payton's short jump shot was blocked by Sacramento's Jason Thompson, who then inadvertently tapped it into the waiting hands of Frye who drilled the three as the shot clock buzzer sounded. Tobias Harris, who scored 27 points and Victor Oladipo, who added 16 points and 7 assists, delivered back-to-back jumpers to cap Orlando's 9-0 run in the fourth making it 99-90 with less than a minute to go. The Magic eventually held on to their lead for a 105-96 victory over the Kings at the Sleep Train Arena in downtown Sacramento. It was a tight contest in the first half with the Magic only ahead by three, 52-49, before Orlando weaved its magic on the Kings to build an 11-point lead at the end of the third. Sacramento played without its star Demarcus Cousins for the fifth straight game because of a viral infection. The Kings did rally from 16 points down in the final quarter to tie the ball game at 90-all before Frye's heroics came into play. Darren Collison paced the Kings with 22 points and 4 assists while Rudy Gay and Derrick Williams added 16 points and 14 points respectively. "We just were not ready to play," Kings coach Michael Malone told the Associated Press. "When we defend like that, when we don't defend at all, we get beat. Defense wins in the NBA, and tonight we didn't defend anybody." Both teams were on the second half of back-to-backs. Sacramento defeated Indiana in overtime, while Orlando beat Utah. The Kings (10-10 ) will face Utah at home on Monday while the Magic (9-14), after finishing their 6-game road trip 3-3 will host the Washington Wizards Wednesday.
