NBA -- Melo's 30 rallies Knicks past Wizards By Ben Paz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 23 Oct 2014 NEW YORK -- Carmelo Anthony cashed in a 3-point play with 13.9 seconds left in the game clock to give the New York Knicks a 103-100 victory over the Washington Wizards Wednesday night at the Madison Square Garden. Anthony scored 12 of his game-high 30 points in the fourth quarter, where was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. The Knicks trailed for most of the third quarter before tightening their defense and seizing back the lead, 84-83, at the 6:55 mark of the final period. The Wizards knotted the count twice in the last two minutes and could have stolen the game had Otto Porter Jr. not misfired on a potential game-tying 3.. "It was nice to win - a test for us, see if we can pull games out and see if we can win coming down the stretch," Anthony told reporters after the game. Tim Hardaway Jr. continued his strong preseason with 12 points while Pablo Prigioni went 3-of-3 from the 3-point arc for 11 points. Ama're Stoudemire chalked 13 points with eight boards. John Wall led the Wizards with 29 points, seven assists and four steals. Porter chipped in 22 points while Damion James and Kevin Seraphin added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Shane Larkin started for the Knicks as Jose Calderon rested with a strained calf muscle. Center Andrea Bargnani remained sidelined by an injured hamstring. "It's not about winning or losing, but about what we're doing right now. Guys are facilitating plays for each other, making the extra pass, sharing the basketball. We've been in excess of 20-plus assists almost every night of the preseason and that speaks to the willingness of playing all together," Knicks head coach Derek Fisher said. The Knicks open their regular season with an October 29 date against the Chicago Bulls at the Garden. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ben Paz. |
