2016 NBA FINALS --- Warriors' reserves stymie Cavs in Game 1

OAKLAND -- In an NBA Finals series highlighted by a pair of Big 3s from both sides, it was the bench players that decided the fate of Game 1.

Shaun Livingston darted off the bench to score 20 points and the Golden State Warriors roared with a convincing 104-89 rout over the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Oracle Arena on Thursday night. Andre Iguodala and Leandro Barbosa, who also came off the bench, finished with 12 and 11 points respectively, helping the defending champions protect their home floor and erect a 1-0 lead in this best-of-7 championships.

The bench eruption came in handy for the Warriors, whose Splash Brothers didn't play well in Game 1. Steph Curry missed 11 of 15 shots on the way to 11 points while Klay Thompson had only 9 points after going 4-of-12 from the field. Both were a combined 4-of-13 from 3-point range.

Still, the Warriors' depth and defense allowed them to grab a 52-43 halftime lead before completely taking over in the fourth quarter, padding their advantage to 96-76 with 5:43 remaining.

LeBron James narrowly missed a triple-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds and one assist but his herculean effort wasn't enough to rescue Cleveland, which made only 32 of 84 field goals (38.1 percent). The Cavs won the rebounds battle (47-42) and had more made free throws (18-9) but they committed 17 turnovers that turned into 25 Warriors points.

Kyrie Irving (26 points, 4 assists) and Kevin Love (17 points, 13 rebounds) turned in respectable numbers but neither All-Star shot well from the field. Irving went just 7-for-22 while Love missed 10 of 17 field goals.

In the end, though, it was the Warriors' bench that spelled the difference.

"What happened? They scored 45 points (off the bench) we scored 10. That's what happened," LeBron James told reporters during his post-game press conference.
