The Whole Tooth and Nothing But ...

PARDON ME BUT I WAS SO WRONG ABOUT MICHAEL KONCZ

PhilBoxing.com

When I wrote that article yesterday praising Michael Koncz for refusing to allow Rodel Mayol to fight Hernan Marquez at Sonora, Mexico who came it 2 pounds overweight and tried to cheat at the scales, I thought that the Canadian gofer of Manny Pacquiao has changed his ways.

But, I was dead wrong.

I don?t know what happened in Mexico and Koncz was so lucky I was not with Team Mayol. If I was there I will surely know the details and definitely would have written about it immediately.

But through information gathered from different published reports I found out that Koncz tried to persuade Mayol to fight by sweetening the pot for Mayol and extra $10,000.

How can Koncz in his right mind try to persuade Mayol to fight disregarding the health of Mayol?

How can a guy who has been in boxing for so long be so callous about the health and welfare of Mayol?.

I can only conclude that Koncz stands to lose his ?percentage? if the Mayol-Marquez fight was not pushed through so he tried to push Mayol and throw him into the lions den promising to add $10,000 to the purse of Mayol.

In my opinion that is so up there in greed scale, if there ever was one.

Further, why does Koncz allow MP boxers to fight in Mexico without prior written contracts?

Without signed contracts, the boxers are at a huge disadvantage. They have no protection whatsoever in unforeseen incidents.

But if I have to make a guess, the absence of a signed contract before the actual fight gives all the advantages to Michael Koncz.

Without a contract, the fighters have no clue how much they were really paid other than what Koncz told them. So it is entirely possible that he can say to the boxer that the promoter is only offering an x amount of dollars when in reality the promoter actually paid Koncz more than what Koncz told the boxer.

It could be for this reason that I have heard Koncz say in more than two occasions that he does not take a percentage from MP boxer?s net pay.

He may already got his share up front that?s why!

It could be for the above reason that Koncz pushed Mepranum to fight Marquez in place of Mayol.

He had to do it because he could have been paid upfront and now must deliver a fighter to face Marquez.

I would not be surprised if he offered Team Mepranum many things including money.

Unfortunately, Team Mepranum is not as ?principled? as Team Mayol and took the fight.

As expected Mepranum lost to Marquez by a UD. There was no way for Mepranum to win that fight unless he knocked out Marquez. They were fighting in Mexico, remember? But there was no way that would happen. Mepranum is not a known knock-out artist.
The overweight Marquez was assured a win.

Team Mepranum should have taken the side of Mayol and stood their ground as well. But as they say, money talks. And, who knows if they were coerced too?

Manny Pacquiao should really take a close look at how Michael Koncz runs the MP Promotions. For all we know, Koncz could be short-changing him too. Perhaps he should get someone to audit the previous fight handled by Koncz.

That is the only righteous thing to do.
