STONE-WALLING THE ISSUE IS NOT GOING TO MAKE US GO AWAY PhilBoxing.com Thu, 08 Dec 2011  Javier Capetillo. I really abhor the old fashion Filipino political trick called stone-walling. The practice does not only kill rightful political processes but also shows the glaring unfairness of those that allow it to happen. Take the Javier Capetillo issue that I recently raise to call the attention of the people running the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) in the Philippines. GAB which is directly under the offices of the President of the Philippines to this writing never acknowledged that a known cheater in the sports of boxing and a person whose license was pulled by the State of California is in the country and may possibly work the corner of a Mexican boxer, Giovanni Segura who is challenging a Filipino American world boxing champion, Brian Viloria for his title. What has GAB done with this issue? To date and as of this writing, none what-so-ever! They just stone-walled the issue and taped their mouths shut! That at best is pathetic. And, this was in spite of the fact that I have raised this issue on two different articles I wrote on this website. In addition, a colleague of mine who incidentally is one of the fast rising Fil-Am sports writers in the US (Rich Mazon), raised the same issue too. I would not accept the fact that the people at GAB did not see or read the articles because I know these people read what is published on PhilBoxing.com and other boxing websites. That they can not deny. But why the stunning silence? I believe that the more silent they are the more there is something not so palatable going on in the business of boxing in the Philippines, in this fight particularly. I mean, why would GAB simply stone wall the issue? Aren?t they supposed to protect the boxing profession and the boxers? Protecting the profession and the boxers is part and parcel of their sworn duties. Why are they keeping quiet and not open a discussion on the issue to clear the air? Are they giving Javier Capetillo, a known cheater and whose license is suspended in the great States of California and Nevada and most other States in the Union, the permission to work the corner of Giovanni Segura when he battles Brian Viloria on Sunday? Is that how low boxing has gone in the Philippines? Is there any more shame and ?delicadeza? in GAB? If so, then those presently at GAB should resign for they do not deserve to be the regulators of the boxing profession. They can?t do their jobs! I wonder, do these people make rules by ?convenience? and not by what is good for Philippine boxing? Another thing that stuns me is the silence of the Philippine media as well. Philippine sports writers are not easy to muzzle. In fact they can not be muzzled. Therefore, their silence on the issue only means that someone from the higher up put the plug on them. How can it be otherwise? When this article gets posted it?s only Thursday in the Philippines and there is plenty of time to do the right thing. I still hope, GAB will wake up and advice Team Segura that a cheater likes Capetillo will not be allowed to wrap the hands of Segura and much less work his corner. After all, that is the only sensible act to do. Anything less will open the door for the world to ridicule those that run boxing in the Philippines.
