PUSHING PACQUIAO TO PICK HIS OPPONENT IMMEDIATELY IS SELFISH PhilBoxing.com Thu, 24 Nov 2011  For the longest time, fans, media people and those in one way or another involved in boxing have clamored for Pacquiao to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now that Pacquiao had a seemingly ?off day at the office? when he barely beat out the challenge of Juan Manuel Marquez days ago at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the calls for the Mayweather fight got more resounding. ?The only way for Pacquiao to regain his uncontested stature as the best pound4pound boxer in the world is to categorically say that he wants to face Mayweather Jr,? one writer wrote. ?He should quit saying that he will fight who ever his promoter puts on his face,? another added. Many others wrote something to that effect. Is Pacquiao really obligated to do so? I for one certainly do not think so. Pacquiao should do what is best for himself and his family. He should shut off all the demands from everyone whose only goal is to satisfy their cravings to see the fight and/or make insane amounts of money at the expense of the health and welfare of Pacquiao. He should not listen to all the selfish people who look at him only as a cash cow and pretend that they truly care for him and his legacy as a fighter. Pacquiao need not fight Mayweather. In fact, he does not need to fight anyone anymore. Period. Those who were unsatisfied at his latest performance, including those that lost money to the bookies and are now expressing their dismay are better off shutting up. Why begrudge the guy for not performing like he did against his last opponents. Pacquiao is not obligated to score a knock-out every time he enters the ring. As far as I am concerned, a win is a win no matter how it came about. And, that?s all that counts. Those that expect Pacquiao to win emphatically every time are selfish. All they want to see is a result that would satisfy their lust for a devastating end result. They are forgetting that the object in boxing is to win. The knock-outs are just the icing on the cake. Hey people, it?s the sweet science, remember? Pacquiao is a barely days removed from the fight with Marquez. His cuts have not yet fully healed. Give the guy some slack and let him enjoy his coming birthday and the Holidays with his family. Let him rest and gather his thoughts. Don?t push him to make a decision now. Give the guy time to think, time to reflect before he makes a decision. Don?t do it for him. And stop pushing and nagging him pick an opponent now. Pacquiao will eventually speak out after he gets his well deserve rest. Besides he has people who work for him who in due time would help him make the choice of opponents.
