CHEER UP RICKY, THERE IS NO SHAME LOSING TO THE PACMAN PhilBoxing.com Thu, 14 May 2009 Part of being successful in what people do is the fact that sometimes they get so caught up with the accolades that they get fully deflated when things turn sour. Case in point:- Ricky ?The Hitman?Hatton. Hatton was so used bulldozing people, 44 times in fact during his career that when he finally met his match, he did not know what to do much less how to accept it. In fact, almost two weeks removed from his most devastating knockout at the hands of the Filipino spitfire, Manny Pacquiao, reports indicate he still is hurting and waking up crying in the morning. Bewildered to say the least. His lost to Floyd Mayweather, Jr., was not as poignant as Junior was obviously bigger than him. And it took Junior, supposedly best pound-4-pound boxer at that time, 10 long rounds before he finally nailed Hatton. And, Hatton was a weight class under Mayweather?s natural 147 lbs. Thus, even if the lost to Mayweather was his first it was not as devastating. However that does not mean to say that it did not hurt at all. The defeat at the hands of the Filipino spit-fire was however something else. Being down twice in round 1 and then finally flattened cold in round 2 was hard for the amiable Brit to accept, much less comprehend. And, the hard expectations of the hordes of fans from across the Atlantic who flew in to Vegas to support him did not help either. In fact to this day, reports further indicate that he has not seen the fight replay, or read reports about it in print and on the internet. He feels so awfully embarrassed about the lost that he indicated he does not know if he will ever watch it at all. His second knock-out in as many defeats left Hatton?s future as a boxer in limbo. But apparently he has already mapped out what he wants to do in so far as being involved in the sweet science is concerned. Hatton plans to be a promoter and has a stable of boxers to that end. Reports also indicate that Hatton remains devastated just thinking of that fateful night last May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Hopefully after returning from a vacation with his girl friend and their kid, Hatton can finally put aside his defeat and map out his future. He could continue and perhaps have a farewell fight against the Australian bomber Michael Katsidis before his fans at Manchester, England. But he better get a thorough medical check up and clearance before he laces the gloves again for his farewell fight. If he takes this route, under no circumstances should he again employ the big mouth geezer, Floyd Mayweather Sr. Mayweather, Sr., as a trainer has lost his credibility with the way he behaved before and after Hatton?s fight with Pacquiao. I doubt very much if the Brits who traditionally are ?proper? will accept such inappropriate behavior again. Hatton without doubt needs a far better person with him at his corner. Anybody, except Mayweather Senior. (Read: Freddie Roach) Or he can take the Oscar de la Hoya way and retire entirely from fighting. He has made tons of money anyway and he does not have to work a day to survive much less raise a family. Either of the two options above should suit him well. After all, there is no shame losing to Manny Pacquiao, the present best pound-4-pound boxer in the world. Given what the Filipino boxing hero has showed that night, no one in the 140 weight class could have beaten him. The Pacman was simply that awesome!
