TRASH ?TALKING MAYWEATHERS ARE AT IT AGAIN, WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN? PhilBoxing.com Tue, 12 May 2009 The Mayweather father and son duo are really something to behold. It?s not often that fight fans and pundit alike run into a couple of brazen big mouths like them. The duo has so many things in common, the most glaring of which is the fact that they are both appear to have delusions of grandeur. They believe that no one is better than them! I guess there is nothing wrong with being confident but being cheeky is totally different! Surely I hope that such line of thinking is not the result of too many punches in the head from their opponents when both were still fighting. Consider the following quotes: ?I think Little Floyd will toy with Pacquiao?- Floyd Sr. ?Pacquiao and Marquez are both too small for me? ? Floyd Jr. Audacious statements, to say the least! How can the old man say that his Junior will toy with the Pacman? Perhaps he has forgotten his now worthless predictions about what ?bigger? Hatton will do to Pacquiao and/or his descriptions of Freddie Roach. Hey geezer, is that line of thought perhaps just one of your ?senior moments?? In Junior?s case, of course both Pacquiao and Marquez are smaller than him. Duh! Floyd Jr is a natural welterweight and both Pacman and Marquez are at least a weight class under that. But that does not mean that he will automatically beat them. In the case of Marquez, Floyd Jr may have a good chance of beating him as Marquez is coming up to a catch weight of over 140 for the first time. But even with that, Floyd cannot be so sure. Marquez has a better than an even chance of winning the fight too. In the case of Pacquiao, if Junior meant that Pacquiao is smaller than him and he will therefore automatically beat him, I say he is flat wrong! And I dare say that Junior probably was better off staying retired. It would be better for him that way so at least he can brag that he never lost a fight in his career. Granting that Junior was the best in his time, now the tide has turned. There is now a new guy who has proven his worth by competing and considerably beating his opponents from three different weight classes in his three last fights. That guy is the Filipino spitfire, Manny Pacquiao. As for Floyd Sr., I say quit the blab man! Concentrate on the stuff you are supposed to do best. Train your son well ( assuming that he will allow you instead of his Uncle Roger) as he will be in one hell of fight if he ever faces Pacquiao in the ring. And, be prepared to lose to Pacquiao and Freddie Roach for the second time in a row. Oh, along the way, if case your Junior allows you to train him, can you please not do the stuff that you allegedly did during the Hatton training camp such as ? being late? ? That is just so unbecoming for a trainer. As for Junior, if you really think that you can beat Pacquiao, put your money were your mouth is. Prove us wrong by taking a fight with Pacquiao at a lower split, say, 60 for the Pacman and 40 for you, or even a 55-45 . I say these because no matter what you think or what your promoter believes, you are no longer the pound-4-pound king. Therefore you no longer deserve the bigger cut of the pie! You lost that when you quit and you don?t automatically get it just by announcing that you are returning. You need to earn it back, I mean the honor and the money that goes with it. The only way to do that is accept the fact that you are now the second fiddle and beat the Pacman under his terms of the revenue split After all, the Pacman is now the king and you, the pretender to the throne! The question is:- Are you man enough to do that? I sure hope so! Click here for a complete listing of columns by this author.
