A milestone of sorts: D-Rose talks to PhilBoxing

CHICAGO -- When this website opened its NBA page in the summer of 2008, it was basically a three-man operation of yours truly as editor, Nick Roska as writer covering the Lakers and Clippers in Los Angeles, and our web editor boss Dong Secuya, who threw his unequivocal support for the endeavor.

Today, PhilBoxing's NBA page has writers on the ground covering the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors.

This past season, PhilBoxing went to all NBA events beginning with the Media Day last October to the All-Star Game in February and the NBA Finals in June. We also covered a ton of regular season and playoffs games in between and dispatched Chicago-based correspondent Kelly Manalo to Las Vegas for the Summer League in July.

With the 2013-14 campaign in our midst we had reporters covering the Media Day events hosted by the Bulls, Lakers, Knicks, Clippers, Warriors, and Kings. It's a huge bump from last year's coverage where the Bulls Media Day was the only such event we went to.

This past Friday, PhilBoxing got the rare privilege of interviewing superstar Derrick Rose at the Bulls practice facility. I don't like to pat our own site in back, but getting some one-on-one talk time with D-Rose is no small feat. Its is a testament to the legitimacy of our NBA page and a well-deserved reward for the hard work our writers turned in over the years.

In a way, yes, we have arrived.

But we're not done. We are currently expanding our coverage and will soon have a team of writers covering the Texas teams -- San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. The hope is also to have on-site coverage of the defending champions Miami Heat, whose head coach -- Erik Spoelstra -- is Filipino-American.

This growth, however, wouldn't have been possible without the support of PhilBoxing's enormous readership. So in behalf of boss Dong and my team of NBA writers allow me to say, thank you.

The 2013-14 NBA season officially begins this October 29. Join us watch the journey unfold. (HDS)
