TEAM VILORIA SHOULD WATCH FOR NINO ROMERO?S DIRTY TACTICS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 13 May 2012 The fight between Brian Viloria and Omar Nino Romero will be held in the Philippines. For that I salute Solar Sports for bringing it to the country. Filipinos, to say the least deserve to see a grand title fight once in a great while. But more importantly, the fight venue will reduce the likely chances of Omar Nino Romero to try and use his dirty tactics in the Philippines. He wouldn?t dare pull a ?Rodel Mayol? on Brian Viloria in front of a Filipino crowd at the Ynares Sports Center. Omar Nino Romero pulled his dirty tactics on Rodel Mayol during a title fight in Mexico last February 2010. In that fight Nino Romero first threw an intentional low blow that hit Mayol squarely in his family jewels. Mayol of course reacted to the intense pain by turning away from Romero and dropping his hands in a failed effort to loosen his jock protector and relieve the pain. At that instant, the referee Vic Drakulich yelled for the fight to stop but Nino Romero for some reason or another did not heed the command of Drakulich. He proceeded to move towards Mayol, stepped on his foot so that he can?t get away and delivered a wicked punch that hit the defenseless Mayol on the point of the chin knocking him out. Mysteriously, Drakulich proceeded to count out Mayol. The crowd exploded thinking that Nino Romero scored a knock-out and Team Romero started to celebrate as well. Mayol?s trainer complained of the foul to Mauricio Sulaiman who was supervising the fight. After review, it was determined that indeed Nino Romero committed the foul and he declared the fight a ?technical decision? reversing Drakulich call of a knockout. Mayol thus kept his crown. But in the process, he had to be driven by ambulance to an Army hospital nearby for a complete medical evaluation. Thankfully, after spending almost three hours in the hospital, Mayol was declared safe by the doctors. Hopefully Nino Romero is smart enough not to use his dirty tactics to beat Viloria. But, still I would strongly recommend that someone watch his trainer as they taped his hands just be sure no hanky-panky goes around. And someone please tell the referee Michael Ortega to watch out for Nino Romero?s dirty tactics. Just keep the fight fair and may the best man win.
