IT?S TIME FOR TOP RANK TO PUT MORE ATTENTION ON DONAIRE PhilBoxing.com Mon, 12 Jul 2010 Nonito Donaire?s smashing victory over the small but talented Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez last Saturday in Puerto Rico was predictable as April showers. It was not a matter of when it will come but how it will come. Would the KO come via his fabulous left counter hook or his left upper cut? Indeed the left upper cut finally found its mark and the rest was history. Although Doniare?s victory saved the night for the Filipinos who fought that evening, it was nothing more than a good work-out for Donaire. Somehow there was something missing. It did not have the glamour or the whoopla that came when he smashed the big-mouth Armenian from Australia (Vic Darchinyan) who wrongly thought then that he was the best amongst the flyweights in the world. The victory over Marquez was just that. A victory that was expected come what may. It?s hard to comprehend why Top Rank is not putting more efforts to find him a more suitable opponent who can test the true skills and power of the Filipino Flash. It?s not like they just signed up Donaire yesterday much less don?t have the ?power? to make such fights happen. Top Rank is indeed on the top rank among present day promotion companies and trust me, they can put together almost any fight they want. Now that Donaire has fought his last fight as a flyweight, its time for Top Rank to move mountains, so to speak and get him a big-named fighter in the 118-122 range to tangle with. Don?t tell me it can?t be done because there are many good ones in those divisions. Getting a big named fighter has nothing to do with these boxers being afraid to face the very talented and power punching Donaire. It?s all about money and Top Rank, if I may guess is one company that has it and can make good use of it if they chose to do so. If Top Rank will offer enough money to these guys, there is no doubt they will line up to face Donaire. If HBO will not pitch in, I am sure SHOWTIME will be glad to do so. Spending money on Donaire should not be a losing proposition. His potentials to make a promotion do well are better than good. All it will take is a guy like Arce or Montiel in his face. Or even a Toshiaki Nishioka, the super bantamweight. There?s also Wilfredo Vasquez, Jr the WBO superbantaweight or Johny Perez, the IBF champion.
