Shoe giant signs D-Rose to a Cinderella deal

If the shoe fits, pay the man.

That's exactly what shoe giant Adidas did this past weekend when it signed reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose to a Cinderella deal worth $260 million including incentives.

Rose, who is in Orlando, Florida taking part in the annual All-Star Weekend festivities, confirmed signing the "lifetime" contract which reportedly stretches through 14 years. The massive deal is deemed by industry insiders as easily one of the richest shoe endorsement deals in history.

"Man, it's definitely a blessing," said the 23-year old guard. "They've been with me since the beginning and stuck with me and I'm happy I'm part of them for the rest of my life. They've been doing everything promotional-wise to make sure they put me out there, marketing me great all over the world. That's all I needed from them."

Last December, Rose inked a 5-year contract extension with the Chicago Bulls worth $95 million, bumping him up there among the highest-paid NBA athletes. But the Adidas windfall, which has a guaranteed amount of $185 million, puts Rose in the super-rich athletes category where the likes of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant reside.

One of the most well-liked players in the league, Rose's new-found fortune drew only praise, not jealousy.

"So fulfilling, so fulfilling," said superstar Dwyane Wade, who plays for the Bulls' bitter rivals, the Miami Heat.

"Wow," added star forward Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder. "I wish I could get a 14-year deal. D-Rose deserves everything he's getting. He's an unbelievable leader, so humble. If you just looked out on the court and didn't know who he was, you wouldn't think he's the MVP of the league, just how ell he blends in with his teammates and how he puts himself always last, I'm very, very happy for him."

The No.1 pick in the 2008 NBA draft, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Rose, who played college ball in Memphis, has been saddled by foot and back injuries this season, forcing him to miss 10 games.

But despite the limited play, seeing action in only 25 games, Rose is still averaging All-Star numbers -- 21.8 points, 7.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds per while shooting the ball at a 46.1 percent clip.
