GENERAL SANTOS CITY - The Filipino pair of Jeffrey de Luna and Jeff Ignacio built on an early lead by snagging the first game in the finals on the break of their opponent to capture the 1st Pacman 10-Ball International Championship crown.
The newly crowned duo handily breezed past Canadian John Mora and German Thornsten Hormman by a score of 11-6.
They won the US$40,000 first prize money while the Hormman and Mora settled for the US$18,000 second prize purse.
De Luna and Ignacio barely had enough rest when they clashed with their final opponents.
They earlier upset sentimental favorites Efren ?Bata? Reyes and Rodolfo ?Django? Bustamante 11-8 in the semifinals to arrange the championship showdown with their foreign foes.
The champions trailed Reyes and Bustamante 7-5 before coming back to win the final game off a miss by Reyes in the final game of their semis match.
The seminfinals, as well as championship games, were all race-to-11 matches.
The All-Filipino semifinal game got a little bit testy with the score 7-all when a spectator took a picture with a flash on just as Bustamante was about to take his shot.
Bustamante missed it and it turned the momentum away from them.
Hormman and Mora earlier beat with Chinese brothers Ko Pin Yi and Ko Ping-Chun in the other semifinal match.
If there is anything, Hormman is going home the richest among the professionals player here as he earlier won the singles crown.
After the championship round, Rep. Manny Pacquiao teamed up with Ronnie Alcano in an exhibition match with the Ko brothers to the delight of the crowd.
Pacquiao and Alcano however lost 7-4.
The doubles championship was played at SM City here while the singles games were held at the Pacquiao-owned sports gym in Calumpang.
