NBA -- Paul George eyes "full recovery"

CHICAGO -- Speaking publicly for the first time since suffering a serious compound fracture in his right leg during the Team USA scrimmage in Las Vegas last August 1, Indiana Pacers star Paul George told reporters he is optimistic about the future.
"I plan on making a full recovery coming back from this," he said at a press conference Friday afternoon in Indianapolis. "I'm taking this in a positive way. I get to sit back and watch the game -- and learn," added the 24-year old small forward.
George also shed light on the hot topic on whether NBA players should continue to play for their national teams and risk devastating injury.
"Freak accidents happen. USA Basketball doesn't deserve any criticism from this," he said.
"I would love to play this year," George told reporters at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. "I know there's a possibility I won't be back this year. I'm aware of that," he said of the upcoming 2014-15 NBA season which opens this October.
George broke his leg in two pieces, according to the Indianapolis Star, and he will begin rehab work on his knees and upper body next week.
There was no timetable laid out George's return but medical experts familiar with this type of injury have speculated a recovery time frame of 12 to 18 months. If his rehabilitation goes well as expected, George opened the possibility of playing in the 2016 Olympics.
"Absolutely, it's in Brazil," he said.
One of the rising stars in the NBA, the 24-year old George played in 80 regular season games last season and averaged 21.7 points. 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists a contest. (Homer D. Sayson)
