Bangkok, Thailand --- Youthful Filipino Jerick Concepcion Faeldonia, playing with the white pieces, defeated Gavin Siridanupath of Thailand after a grueling 60-move battle in the Caro-Kann Defense in Round 4 of the 2nd Bangkok Summer International Chess Tournament Standard Challenger here at Royal Benja Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday, July 30,2026.
The intense encounter lasted for nearly three and a half hours, with Siridanupath putting up a resilient defense throughout the game. However, the Faeldonia, the pride of Odiongan, Romblon showcased his exceptional endgame technique and composure under pressure, gradually converting his advantage into a well-earned victory.
With this impressive win, Faeldonia, a certified online Arena International Master improved to a perfect 4.0 score, the same out of Nguyen Hoang Vi of Vietnam, Jarunpol Sajjapornthep of Thailand, John Paul De Guzman and John Franz De Asis of the Philippines.
"I am happy with my performance today," said Faeldonia, the Grade 11 student of Arellano University.
The game between National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. and Nguyen Le Sy of Vietnam
ended his game in a draw after 17 moves of a Slav Defense.
Bernardino , a certified online Arena Grandmaster raised his total 3.5 points.
