JR Magboo takes IBF Pacific title
By Dennis U. Eroa PhilBoxing.com Mon, 04 Aug 2014

AS EXPECTED, Batangas attraction JR ??Starboy?? Magboo of Touch Gloves Boxing Gym delighted his fans after posting a hard-earned victory via split decision over hard-fighting Virgil Puton of Wild Card Gym before an overflowing crowd last Saturday at the Agoncillo Sports Center in Agoncillo, Batangas.
The 25-year-old Magboo and Puton didn?t disappoint ring fans as they exchanged powerful punches all throughout the 12-round slugfest.
True to form, Magboo showed his ability to absorb Puton?s punches before taking the upperhand with his counter-attack. Puton, dubbed as ??Strongman?? was downed in the third round after a nerve-jarring right straight by Magboo. Puton gamely survived the round although it was clear that Magboo, cheered on by the animated crowd, gained more confidence and dictated the tempo of the bout.
With the win, Magboo annexed the International Boxing Federation Pan Pacific super bantamweight title. He improved his record to 16-0-2 win-loss-draw including 7 KOs. The native of Baco, Oriental Mindoro but now calls Agoncillo, Batangas his home, actually posted his sixth straight victory.
Saved by the Bell Promotion president Elmer Anuran said the victory is a bigstep for Magboo, who is eyeing the world title.
??It was an action-packed bout. Both boxers were determined to score a knockout. The win will boost JR?s campaign to be a world champion someday,?? said Anuran.
