PACQUIAO FILES CANDIDACY FOR PHILIPPINE CONGRESS

CEBU -- Filipino boxing superstar Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao has filed his certificate of candidacy for congressman in the coming May 14 Elections representing South Cotabato at the Commision on Elections office in General Santos City at 1:54 o'clock this afternoon, Pacquiao's confidant Rex 'Wakee' Salud has informed PhilBoxing.com.
Franklin 'Jing' Gacal, Pacquiao's long time legal adviser, filed the certificate of candidacy in behalf of Pacquiao to beat today's deadline as the world's most exciting fighter and '2006 Fighter of the Year' is currently in Los Angeles training for his upcoming fight on April 14 in San Antonio, Texas against the undefeated Mexican Jorge Solis.
Pacquiao, who grew up in abject poverty selling doughnuts in the streets of General Santos before rising to become the country's most famous and richest athlete, is running under the administation party of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and faces incumbent and oppositionist congresswowan Darlene Antonino-Custudio, a member of Cotabato's influential Antonino political clan.
Pacquiao is running for political office against the advise of his closest friends and advisers as well as against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of his fans.
