Local hero JR Magboo eyes IBF Pacific title

PhilBoxing.com

Magboo.
HE fights wisely and there is no doubt that JR Magboo, pride of Touch Gloves Boxing Gym, is ripe for an international title.

Elmer Anuran, Magboo?s handler and president of Saved by the Bell Promotions, said his ward will have a stern test against highly-rated Virgil ??Strongman?? Puton of Wild Card.

Dubbed as Star Boy, the 25-year-old Magboo, a native Baco, Oriental Mindoro, clashes with Puton August 2 at the Agoncillo Sports Center in Agoncillo, Batangas.

At stake is the International Boxing Federation Pan Pacific crown.

??This is going to be an action-packed bout. Both fighters are tested and willing to mix it up,?? noted the youthful Anuran, who is known for pitting his fighters against battle-tested foes.

Expected to watch the slugfest is well-loved former world champion and promoter Gerry Pe?alosa. Also coming is Australian matchmaker Robert Hill and a host of exciting personalities.

Known for his vicious counter-punching and ability to find the weak points of his opponents, Magboo, younger brother of fast-rising Nino, is still unbeaten in 17 bouts. He sports a record of 15-0-2, including seven knockouts.

??Yes sir. I?m ready to rumble. I want to win this title and make my Batangas and Mindoro fans happy,?? said Magboo, one of the most popular fighter of Touch Gloves due to his never-say-die style.

But Puton is not the ??Strongman?? for nothing. The Las Pinas bet last suffered a setback against Randy Braga two years ago before posting his winning streak. The orthodox fighter has a record of 14-3-0, including seven knockouts.

Magboo last fought and beat Angelito Merin last May at the Pili Capitol Convention Center in Camarines Sur.

He wrested the Philippine title by knocking out Jhunriel Ramonal in the 8h round last March.
