NBA -- Clippers to ink Hawes for four years, $23 million
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Sun, 06 Jul 2014

CHICAGO -- Although not an active participant in the free agency chase of big hitters LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, the Los Angeles Clippers have quietly upgraded their team in this summer frenzy.
As first reported by Yahoo! Sports, the Clips have agreed to terms with 7-foot-1, 245-pound center Spencer Hawes. The deal, which can't be signed until July 10 when the moratorium on signings end, is worth $23 million for four years, according to multiple reports.
The 26-year old Hawes entered the league as the No.10 first-round pick of the 2007 NBA Draft . He spent most of his career in Philadelphia but he had stops in Sacramento and Cleveland as well.
Hawes, who played college ball at Washington, averaged 13.2 points and 8.3 rebounds in 53 games with the Sixers last season.
Hawes' length and size is obviously an upgrade at center, but his accuracy from 3-point range (41.6 percent last season) makes him a dangerous weapon for the Clips who already have the explosive Blake Griffin on the roster. (Homer D. Sayson)
