MILWAUKEE -- After a disappointing 2013-14 season in which they finished last among 30 NBA teams with a dismal 15-67 won-lost record, the future is looking up for the Milwaukee Bucks.
With the No.2 pick in the 2014 NBA draft last June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, the Bucks chose Jabari Parker, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound standout from Duke University.
Parker is expected to make an immediate impact with the Bucks, who averaged just 95.8 points and 41.1 rebounds per game last season. Parker, in his lone year with Duke, excelled both in scoring and rebounding, norming 19.1 points and 8.7 boards per.
Before heading to college and subsequently turning pro, Parker starred at Simeon High School in Chicago, some 80 miles away from Milwaukee. Simeon High is the same school that produced local hero Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls.
Meeting some 300 fans Friday at the Milwaukee Public Market, Parker expressed his enthusiasm in being in Wisconsin.
"I don't look forward to leaving anytime soon. If I look at it like a short term deal, then things won't work out. They really taking chances on a guy like me. I want to keep that in my heart," Parker told the Chicago Tribune. (NO)
