ELORDE BOXER TRONGCO SET TO DEFEND WBC INTERNATIONAL TITLE
By Salvador Lopez PhilBoxing.com Thu, 26 Jun 2014
Elorde boxer Renan Trongco will be putting his WBC International flyweight title on the line when he takes on hard-punching Weljan Ugbaniel this Saturday, June 28 at the Elorde Sports Center, Sucat Paranaque. The title fight will be the main attraction of the13-bout event dubbed ?Bakbakan Sa Elorde? (?Slugfests in Elorde?) at the Center?s Flash Grand Ballroom.
Trongco, who bears the moniker ?Little Pacquiao from the South? captured the vacant title after defeating Wang Xin Hua of China by unanimous decision in the same venue back in September 2013. Prior to winning the WBC international title, Trongco also held the WBC Youth inter-continental light fly-weight title and had put up a gallant effort in his losing bid of for the IBO minimum-weight title against the current and long-reigning champion Hekkie Budler of South Africa.
Ugbaniel, on the other hand was on a 2-fight winning streak following a draw against Gabriel Altarerjos in their fight for the vacant WBC Youth intercontinental title in September 2012. His recent fight was a win against Rogen Flores in February this year and hence, is expected to take advantage of his opponent?s ring rust who fought his last fight nine months ago.
The event will also feature former WBC super-flyweight challenger Silvester Lopez, former WBC International bantamweight champion Dennis Tubieron and promising boxers Cris Paulino and Bryan Macamay who are pitted against separate opponents.
Promoting the event is Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde Jr. with sponsorship by RCD Land, Inc. headed by its CEO Roland Delantar.
The event starts at 6pm.
