NBA -- Nets foil Rockets, clinch playoffs berth

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Brooklyn Nets booked a ticket to the playoffs following a 105-96 victory over the powerhouse Houston Rockets Tuesday night at the Barclay's Center.
Joe Johnson guided the Nets with 32 points, including four triples, and Shaun Livingston added 17 and six boards. Andre Blatche chipped in 13, Miles Plumlee had 11 while Mirza Teletovic chalked 11 as Brooklyn won for the 14th consecutive time on their home floor.
With a 40-33 record the Nets are currently ranked 5th in the Eastern Conference standings, but they are just one-and-a-half games behind the 42-32 Chicago Bulls for the 4th seed when the playoffs begin on April 19.
James Harden accounted for 26 and Omer Asik pulled down 23 rebounds with his 12 markers. Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons each had 16 points but the Rockets missed 52 of 84 field goals, a very low 38.1 percent.
The loss dropped the Rockets to 49-24. They are still 4th in the Western Conference standings but their lead over the 5th ranked Blazers (49-27) shrunk to one-and-a-half-games. (DM)
