NBA - Warriors slay Hakws, 111-97 By Ryan Medida PhilBoxing.com Sun, 09 Mar 2014 ![]() OAKLAND -- The Golden State Warriors (39-24) cruised past the Atlanta Hawks (26-34) on Friday night at the Oracle Arena here in downtown Oakland. After a week long Eastern Conference road trip, the fans were buzzing as they welcomed the Warriors back home. And the home team didn't disappoint by serving a relatively easy 111-97 romp over the sliding Hawks, It was a special offering for Filipino fans in the Bay Area as the Warriors hosted a halftime presentation of Filipino Heritage night. (see separate story) The teams traded baskets for most of the first half until the Warriors put together a 12-1 spurt in the closing minutes that the Hawks never recovered from. Golden State began a stretch of nine of 11 and 13 of its final 20 games at Oracle Arena. The Warriors want to use the finishing stretch to re-establish their home-court advantage and make a run at the Los Angeles Clippers, who are four games ahead in the Pacific Division. Klay Thompson exited the game early with 5 minutes and 51 seconds left in the first quarter and did not return for the rest of the game. He suffered a minor lower back strain and head coach Mark Jackson said Thompson was "ready to start on the 3rd quarter" but he (Jackson) decided to "pull a Pop" and rested Thompson the rest of the game. David Lee led the Warriors with 18 points and 6 boards. Andre Igoudala and Stephen Curry both finished with 13 points. More importantly coach Jackson was able to rest Stephen Curry in the fourth quarter as the GSW bench kept a comfortable lead, led by Jermaine O'neal with 17 points and sealed a victory against the Hawks. Paul Millsap had 16 points and seven rebounds after missing the last five games because of a bruised right knee for the Hawks, who have lost five straight. Mike Scott added 14 points and DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague scored nine points apiece as Atlanta continued its late-season slide and desperately hanging on to the 8th spot in the East.
