NBA -- Nets melt Nuggets on the road, 112-89

CHICAGO -- The Brooklyn Nets held the host Denver Nuggets to eight first quarter points and never looked back on the way to a mighty impressive road victory.
Paul Pierce led a balanced assault with 18 points and the Nets routed the Nuggets, 112-89, at the Pepsi Center. Joe Johnson, Marcus Thornton and Mason Plumlee finished with 10 points each for Brooklyn, which made 39 of 82 filed goals and 10 of 31 threes.
Randy Foye registered 15 while Kenneth Faried added 14 for Denver. The Nuggets missed 50 of 80 field goals and clunked 16 of 2 triple tries. The Nuggets dropped to 25-32, 11th place in a crowded Western Conference and eight games behind for the 8th and last playoffs berth.
"I didn't say anything. I just told them when practice was tomorrow. There's not really much you can say in a situation like this right now, emotions being what they are. I thought it was better to forget about it and we'll get after it tomorrow," Nuggets rookie head coach Brian Shaw told reporters after the game.
After a terrible start to their season, the Nets are inching closer to a.500 mark at 27-29. They are firmly in the playoffs picture and ranked sixth in the Eastern Conference.
