NBA -- Hinrich's late free throws take down Hawks
  By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Feb 2014

CHICAGO -- Kirk Hinrich calmly sank 6-of-7 free throws in the final 40 seconds of play and the Chicago Bulls escaped with a 107-103 road victory over the Atlanta Hawks Tuesday night.

The savvy veteran finished with 14 points but the Bulls got a huge lift from their bigs as Joakim Noah finished with 20 points and 12 boards while Carlos Boozers logged 17 and 11 rebounds at the Philips Arena.

Playing all but nine seconds of the 48-minute tiff, Chicago's Mike Dunleavy registered 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists. It was the Bulls' sixth win in seven outings and the team improved to 30-26 for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Once one of the top teams earlier in the season, the Hawks have since been decimated by injuries and have lost nine of their last 10 games. At 26-30, Atlanta dropped to eighth place in the East.

Already playing without their best player -- Al Horford -- for the rest of the season, the Hawks also missed the services of big men Gustavo Ayon and Paul Millsap on Tuesday.

Despite being shorthanded, the Hawks built an early 14-point lead and a 30-20 bubble after 12 minutes. But the Bulls scratched and clawed their way back, thanks a big fourth quarter by Hinrich.

"I think they really wanted that game today. We really wanted that game, too. It wasn't pretty at times. I'm just happy we were able to come up with the win," Noah told the Chicago Tribune.

Noah and the Bulls hope to ride that momentum when they host the high-scoring Golden State Warriors at the United Center. (Homer D. Sayson)
