By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Mon, 20 Jan 2014

Cebuano boxing promoter Rex 'Wakee' Salud has sent his condolences to the family of the late World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman who passed away on Jan. 16 at the age of 82 after undergoing a major heart surgery.
Salud, in a statement, said "I was saddened by the death of Don Jose Sulaiman. Sulaiman is instrumental as to why boxing is still a vibrant sport in the world. He transformed the WBC into a prestigious sanctioning boxing organization and helped not only boxing officials but most especially the boxers themselves to fulfill their dreams and aspirations in life."
Sulaiman, of Lebanese and Native American descent, boxed as an amateur and has served as a trainer, promoter, referee and judge. However he will always be remembered as the president of the World Boxing Council. In 1968, he joined the WBC and quickly moved through the ranks. He was elected president of the organization on Dec. 5, 1975, a position he held until his death.
Sulaiman's remains was scheduled to be cremated on Jan. 19, Sunday (Monday in Manila) at the Chapel Loraine of 'Panteon Frances' in Mexico City. A ceremony will be held at the Basilica de Gadualupe in Mexico City the following day.
