NBA -- Knicks hold off Heat in New York By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Sat, 11 Jan 2014 CHICAGO -- In a battle between the NBA's David and Goliath, David won this one, too. Carmelo Anthony dropped 28 points and grabbed eight boards while point guard Raymond Felton directed the offense with 13 points and 14 assists and the New York Knicks stung the Miami Heat, 102-92, Thursday night at the Madison Square Garden. Andrea Bargnani added 19 points for New York but it was the solid effort of power forward Amar'e Stodemire who got some rave reviews, thanks to his 14 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes and 35 seconds off the bench. "STAT was great. This is probably the first time we played STAT down the stretch of a basketball game. I thought he was very, very positive for us," Knicks head coach Mike Woodson told NBA.com. Trailing 48-43 at the halftime break, the Knicks unplugged a 32-23 third quarter run to seize the lead. .Miami rallied to within 84-79 at the 7:25 mark of the fourth quarter but Iman Shumpert responded with a big 3 in the ensuing play and the Knicks went on to win their third straight and improved their record to 13-22.. LeBron James had another efficient night and made 12 of 17 field goals for 32 points. The reigning back-to-back MVP also had five rebounds and six assists while sidekick Dwyane Wade added 23 and Norris Cole pumped in 12. But no other Heat player scored in double figures in points and Miami missed 14 of their 21 3s. The loss dropped the Heat to 29-9, 1.5 games behind the 28-7 Indiana Pacers for Eastern Conference supremacy. The 28-8 San Antonio Spurs currently lead the Western Conference. (Homer D.
