NBA -- Mavs rain 13 threes in Bulls rout
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Mon, 30 Dec 2013

CHICAGO -- The Dallas Mavericks dropped 13 triples at the United Center to easily beat the Chicago Bulls, 105-83, on Saturday night.
In an impressive show of firepower, the Mavs shot 52.6 from the field and 50 percent beyond the arc. And they also won the battle of the boards, 39-34, while issuing more assists, 26-22.
Monta Ellis led the visitors with 22 points on 9-for-19 shooting while old hands Dirk Nowitzki and Vince Carter penciled 18 each. Shawn Marion chipped in 14 and 13 rebounds and point guard Jose Calderon orchestrated Dallas' attack with seven assists to go along with his nine markers.
"The emphasis the last few days was defense and rebounding. We outrebounded them for the game. When we defend and rebound we are a formidable team," Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle told NBA.com after the Mavericks moved up to 8th place in the Western Conference with a 17-13 record.
Already without Derrick Rose, the Bulls also missed the services of small forward Luol Deng, who sat out with a sore Achilles. Without both stars, Joakim Noah took over the scoring cudgels for Chicago with 20 and 10 rebounds.
Carlos Boozer and Mike Dunleavy scored 13 each while Jimmy Butler and DJ Augustin combined for 22, but the Bulls, who trailed by as many as 32 points in the second half, converted only 32 of 74 field goals.
The Bulls also missed 14 of their 17 triple attempts. The loss snapped their two-game winning streak and they slipped to 11-17 in the overall standings, 9th place in the Eastern Conference. (Homer D. Sayson)
