BAUTISTA SPARS WITH BIG BOYS, SET TO BREAK CAMP! By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 14 Feb 2007 DANAO CITY--Undefeated superbantamweight Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista is wrapping up his training here, and will then move to the Marriott Hotel next week where he will be billeted days before he tangles with Colombian Feider Viloria on February 24 at the Cebu City Sports Complex. Yesterday, Bautista sparred for six rounds against four different sparmates at the Ramon M. Durano Sr. Memorial Sports Complex. The sports facility is just a kilometer away from the multi-million beachfront rest house owned by sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer where Bautista is staying with trainer Edito Villamor. "He is in fantastic shape. He's been keeping close watch of his diet and health," said Villamor in an interview yesterday after the late afternoon workout. In tremendous shape, Bautista toyed with his sparmates Danny Boy Bontilao (2 rds), Fernando Otic (2 rds), Weng Haya (1 rd) and Reman Salim (1 rd)--in that order. The four sparmates are all heftier than him, with weights ranging from featherweight to lightweight. BAUTISTA TRAINING PICS. All Photos by Dong Secuya. Click here for more training photos. Bautista and Villamor also downplayed rumors coming out that the undefeated fighter had been knocked down by Haya in a previous sparring session, indicating that it was a slip. "Wala ko matumba oy. Na out-balance lang jud ko," (I wasn't knocked down. I was off-balanced) Bautista said, which was seconded by Villamor. Keeping a close watch while the sparring sessions were on-going yesterday was Aldeguer himself, as well as a good number of fans made up of students who congregated around the ring. Tomorrow, Bautista will spar for four rounds, and then his final sparring takes place on Saturday where another four-round session awaits him. Meanwhile, a press conference will be held on Feb 18, 12:00 noon, at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel in Cebu Business Park. Attending the event will be WBO super flyweight champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel and WBC Latino super bantamweight titlist Feider Viloria together with SGG Sports Promotion president and international promoter Sammy 'Don King' Gello-ani. Montiel will be accompanied by trainer-manager Manuel Montiel while Viloria will be joined in by trainer-coach Miguel Gonzales. On the same day, Indonesia’s WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight king Simson “The Terminator” Butar-Butar arrives from Jakarta with manager Jhonson Hutagaol and an unnamed trainer. The team flies from Manila at around 3 PM and are expected to step down at Mactan Cebu International Airport at around 4:15 PM. They will move directly to Rajah Park Hotel near the Fuente Osme?a Circle, which will host their stay in Cebu City for the “Moment of Truth” tri-World championship fight on Feb 24 at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
