NBA -- Catching up: A cause for Warriors' worry
By Joan Secuya-Medida PhilBoxing.com Sun, 15 Dec 2013
OAKLAND -- The Warriors fell behind early again in what has become a troubling trend at home floor, the Oracle Arena.
With its impressive outside shooting firepower, Golden State has come back from deficits of 27 and 18 points to win its previous two games against Toronto and Dallas, respectively.
But on some nights, some holes are harder to climb out of. Friday night was one of those nights as the Houston Rockets wouldn't budge in the end.
It was a disappointing loss because the Warriors seemed poised for another come-from-behind charge after falling behind by as many as 13 at one point and by nine heading into the fourth quarter.
The Warriors twice took the lead over the final 12 minutes. They tied the score 98-98 with 3:18 left on Harrison Barnes' dunk off an offensive rebound.
But Chandler Parsons struck back quickly for Houston, and Dwight Howard, who missed much of the fourth quarter because of foul trouble, delivered a crucial three-point play with 2:15 left on a put-back.
That gave the Rockets a 103-98 lead the Warriors couldn't overcome.
Harden led Houston with 26 points, but the Rockets won with key contributions throughout their lineup. Parsons scored 23, and Howard had 18 points and 11 rebounds.
"It was a tough loss for us, but ultimately it was because we turned the ball over too much," coach Mark Jackson said. "Can't do that."
David Lee had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Stephen Curry collected 20 points and nine assists for Golden State, which out rebounded the Rockets 56-32. But Houston outshot Golden State 49.4 to 47.8 percent and made more big plays late.
The Rockets continued their superiority over the Warriors - 18 wins in their past 22 head to head match-up including both games this season. (JSM)
