NBA -- Wolves ravage Lakers with 47 first quarter surge
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Tue, 12 Nov 2013

CHICAGO -- The visiting Minnesota Timberwolves handed the Los Angeles Lakers a royal beating by scoring a lopsided 113-90 victory Sunday night at the Staples Center.
The Wolves improved to 5-2 by unleashing 47 points in the opening quarter, the most in the NBA since March 2008 when the Denver Nuggets dropped 48 against the then Seattle Supersonics.
Point guard Ricky Rubio led Minnesota with the second triple-double of the Spaniard's young career, 12 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists. Power forward Kevin Love drained four 3s for 25 points while Corey Brewer added 17.
"We were on fire. We were very active plus we shot the heck out of it. I don't think they really knew what hit them," Timberwolves head coach Rick Adelman told NBA.com after his team shot 44 of 90 field goals and 10 of 20 threes.
The Lakers, who've lost two in a row to drop at 3-5, got 19 points and eight assists from point guard Steve Blake. Jodie Meeks had 16 points while Pau Gasol finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
But Steve Nash only chalked two points and three assists and played for just 13 minutes and 21 seconds due to nerve problems on his back.
The Lakers couldn't get anything going on offense, where they shot just 38 percent from the field, missing 57 of 93 field goal attempts. (Homer D. Sayson)
