LOS ANGELES -- The San Antonio Spurs remained the best team in the Western Conference, thanks to a 120-89 rout of the struggling New York Knicks Sunday afternoon at the Madison Square Garden.
The 6-1 Spurs are the best in the Western Conference and trail only the 7-0 Indiana Pacers for the top record in the NBA overall. The Spurs shot 53.9 percent from the field and out rebounded the Knicks 51-33 for their fourth consecutive victory.
New York native Danny Green was the top man for the Spurs, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Tony Parker finished with 17 and six assists while Kawhi Leonard had 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting. Tim Duncan finished with a solid 11 points and 10 boards.
"We didn't compete tonight. That's just unacceptable," lamented Knicks head coach Mike Woodson after the rout. As for the chants of "Fire Mike Woodson!!" which echoed at the famous Garden, Woodson told NBA.com, "I don't worry about stuff like that.
Andrea Bargnani and Carmelo Anthony each had 16 points to lead the ineffective Knicks, who dropped to 2-4, second to last in the Eastern Conference and tied for worst record in the entire Eastern Conference.
