ARUM: WE CAN GET MAYWEATHER SR. TO TRAIN PACQUIAO; ARUM, TEAM PACQUIAO TO MEET IN MACAU NEXT WEEK By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 01 Feb 2007 Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he will meet Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao in Macau to finalize details of his next fight which Arum plans to stage in the gambling enclave. In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Arum revealed "I am supposed to go to Macau on Monday to meet him (Pacquiao) on Monday or Tuesday. Arum said "everything is fine" when asked about the fight and indicated he had received a call from Pacquiao’s people telling him that "Manny is okay with the opponent (WBC featherweight champion In Jin Chi) and that everything is fine with Manny" although Arum said that "he may be running for office" in the coming May elections. Arum confirmed that he had reached agreement with the camp of In Jin Chi who is managed by well-known businessman and former boxing champion Kusung Lee who is a close friend of WBC founding secretary general Rudy Salud who initiated the idea of a Pacquiao-In Jin Chi fight. Arum said the fight date may be shifted from April 28 to 27 "because people say we are better off with a Friday night than a Saturday" in this part of the world. He also posed the question, "wasn’t I right about Freddie Roach?" saying that the celebrated trainer was going to train Oscar De La Hoya for his May 5 blockbuster with Floyd Mayweather and because of this Roach " can’t train Pacquiao." Arum claimed Roach suggested that Pacquiao would be okay with his assistant Justin Fortune but Arum added, "its up to Manny." However, the Top Rank promoter said that if "worse comes to worse they can always get Floyd Mayweather Sr or Emmanuel Steward who would love to do it."
