MELLIGEN, AMONSOT IN WBO FIGHTS IN KOREA
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 22 Jan 2007
Undefeated Mark Jason Melligen and Czar Amonsot of Bohol will get a crack at WBO Asia Pacific titles on February 9 in Seoul, Korea against separate opponents.
The Bacolod City-raised Melligen, undefeated in six fights and a former SEA Games gold medalist, will take on a soon-to-be-announced South Korean foe for the WBO Asia Pacific junior welterweight title.
"I'm so happy I am given this kind of break this early part of my career. I thank my manager Antonio L. Aldeguer," Melligen said in an interview yesterday at the ALA Gym.
Melligen turned pro in the early part of last year, and has never looked back in racking up an impressive 6-0 record spiked with 5 knockout wins.
Amonsot (17-2-1, 10 KO's) the former 130-lb Asia Pacific champion, will now campaign in the bigger lightweight category against another Korean foe following his heart-breaking loss to Indonesian Simson Butar-Butar last year for the super-featherweight title.
Philippine bantamweight champion Michael Domingo will be seeing action on the undercard in a non-title fight, while two more ALA-based fighters also take part on the other undercard matches.
