MARVIN MABAIT TO CAMPAIGN IN THE U.S.

Mabait.
CEBU -- Exciting Filipino superbantam prospect Marvin Mabait (18-1-2, 12KO) is set to fly to the U.S. on Aug. 29 to bring his boxing career to northern America, New Jersey based boxing manager Vinny Scolpino has informed Philboxing. Scolpino has partnered with Mabait's Philippine manager former two-time world champion Gerry Pe?alosa and will handle all of Mabait's U.S. affairs.

Mabait, from Zamboanga City, who goes by the moniker 'Chavacano Disaster' had captured the Philippine super flyweight title in January last year by defeating Rey Perez over 12 rounds in Caloocan City. Mabait however lost the title in his first defense to Marco Demecillo (18-1-1, 14KO) in April, also of last year, in Lapulapu City, in a memorable fight many in Philippine boxing circle dubbed as the Philippine fight of the year for 2012. It was a fight that was highly anticipated by local boxing aficionados since Mabait and Demecillo had already met very early in their careers which resulted in an action-packed four-round majority draw, a fight that saw Demecillo down in the first round but recovered to salvage a draw. In the April rematch, Mabait again sent Demecillo to the canvas in the very first round but Demecillo turned the tables by knocking down Mabait in the 3rd round before Mabait's corner threw in the towel to bail out Mabait from further hurt. Mabait, who since then has campaigned in the super bantamweight division, went on to win two successive fights, all by KO, after the Demecillo debacle.

Scolpino said he has already lined up a fight for Mabait in mid-September in Florida on Tuto show on Telemundo.

Mabait (L) downs Demecillo in the first round during their Philippine flyweight title bout in April last year in Lapulapu City.

Demecillo (R) returns the favor in the 3rd round.
