Doliguez stays in US, will come back stronger, wiser By Dennis U. Eroa PhilBoxing.com Tue, 23 Jul 2013 NO NEED to despair. Despite settling for a majority draw against battle-scarred Mexican fighter Ruben Tamayo (22-4-4, 16 knockouts), rising featherweight Jun ??Hercules?? Doliguez (16-0-2, 12 knockouts) is expected to keep the momentum of his determined campaign for a world title. Doliguez of the Saved by the Bell Promotion mauled Tamayo but could not find a way to topple the taller Mexican fighter from Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. SBB president Elmer Anuran studied the tape of the fight and wasn?t disappointed with the result of Doliguez?s first international bout. ??For me, it's alright. It was his first travel and fight outside the country.. There's a lot of adjustment to be made. It was a great experience for JD,?? said the youthful Anuran, who remains confident that the native of Malungon in Saranggani, Province will be able to fight in an undercard of a world championship before the end of the year. SBB has a memorandum of agreement with Fernando Beltran?s Zanfer Promotion, which will handle Doliguez?s international exposure,. Anuran also expressed delight on Doliguez?s fighting heart. ??What is important now is we've seen his gallantry. It was his first fight outside his turf but Jun showed no fear. We will plug the loopholes in his game and I?m sure he will be able to adjust. Wait till you see the new Hercules,?? said Anuran. Anuran said Hercules will continue his training in the United States. ??I am still studying whether he?ll train in Los Angeles or San Diego. Trainer Benny dela Pena, assistant trainer Dagul Martinez will be assisted by former WBC and IBF minimum weight champion Manny ?Cabalay? Melchor. Melchor trains promising boxers at the City Boxing Gym in San Diego. In an interview with Doliguez, the 5-foot-7 boxer admitted that Tamayo was a clever foe. Though at the receiving end of Doliguez?s power punches, the clever Mexican used his reach and wonderful footwork to keep the Pinoy boxer at bay. Doliguez admitted that he failed to adjust his style against Tamayo. ??I?ve learned my lessons well and will use this experience to my benefit,?? said Doliguez. Now, that?s music to the ear of Hercules lovers. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Dennis U. Eroa. ![]() |
