NBA -- World Peace lands in New York

PhilBoxing.com

SAN FRANCISCO -- Four days after he was amnestied by the Los Angeles Lakers, Metta World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, is returning home to play for the New York Knicks.

As first reported by Yayoo! Sports, the Queensbridge, New York native agreed to a two-year deal worth $3.2 million. Only one year is guaranteed while the second year is a player option, according to multiple reports.

The 33-year old World Peace was due to make $7.7 million next season and the Lakers decided to use the amnesty provision on him in hopes of saving an estimated $30 million in salary and luxury tax.

Prior to joining the Lakers, where he won an NBA ring in 2010, Metta toiled with the Chicago Bulls, the Indiana Pacers, the Sacramento Kings and the Houston Rockets. He inked a five-year deal worth $33 million with the Lakers in 2009.

The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Metta has played a total of 14 years in the NBA. He averaged 12.4 points and five rebounds per game last season. (JSM)
