Sabillo K0s Colombian challenger to retain WBO title

PhilBoxing.com

MANILA (July 14) PNA ? Reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) World minimumweight champion Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo retained his crown by knocking out Colombian challenger Jorle Estrada in the 9th round of the main event in the Pinoy Pride XXI on Saturday night at the jampacked Solaire Resort and Casino in Paranaque City.

After constantly chasing his challenger since the start of the fight, Sabillo finally caught Estrada with a solid left hook to the body to end the fight in 1:09 of the 9th round.

Sabillo remained undefeated and improved his fight record to 22 wins with 12 knockouts against no loss or draw while Estrada suffered only his second loss against 21 wins with 12 Kos and one draw.

Estrada had earlier predicted to win via a 7th round knockout against Sabillo, who is also the reigning Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) minimumweight king. But Estrada engaged Sabillo in a ?catch me if you can? style. Sabillo, however, managed to hurt him already with body shots starting in the fourth round which showed the weakness of Estrada.

Sabillo admitted that he really had wanted to knockout immediately Estrada since the opening bell. But chief trainer Edito Villamor reminded him to be patient and just wait for the right timing.

?Medyo nanggigil lang talaga ako at na-pressured kasi sa main event ako lumaban,? said Sabillo, who is now one of the only three remaining Filipino world boxing champions aside from fellow stablemate Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes and John Casimero.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said that Sabillo will next night in Dubai or in the US already.

The Pinoy Pride XXI: When Worlds Collide boxing card was co-presented by the ALA Promotions, ABS-CBN Sports and Solaire Resort and Casino.

The star-studded event sponsored by ALA Boxing, SM Tickets, ALA Gym, Fungisol and Cobra Energy Drink was attended by almost 2,000 people including celebrities like former Vice President Noli de Castro, ABS-CBN president Charo Santos, Gerald Anderson, Diether Ocampo, Bea Alonzo, Zanjo Marudo, Jake Cuenca, Cesar Montano, Bayani Agbayani, Bangs Garcia and Senator Sonny Angara.
