Doliguez starts quest for int?l stardom, fights Boom Boom Bautista tormentor By Dennis U. Eroa PhilBoxing.com Fri, 12 Jul 2013 ![]() FILIPINO boxing star Jun ??Hercules?? Doliguez (16-0-1, 12 KOs) left last night for the United States aboard Philippine Air Lines in what is billed as the first giant step to join the elite ranks of world champions. The provincemate of ring legend Manny Pacquiao will be joined in the trip by veteran trainer Benny dela Pe?a and assistant trainer Dagul Martinez. The trip made possible by the partnership between the internationally-famous Zanfer Promotions and Saved by the Bell Promotions under the leadership of Elmer Anuran will lead to a slugfest against the dangerous and battle-tested Jose Ramirez of Mexico in Mexico. The bout will happen on July 20. ??I?m ready sir,?? said Doliguez, who trained at the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Agoncillo, Batangas. ??This is my first international fight and I don?t want to disappoint my family.?? Anuran said Zanfer has pitted the 5-foot-7 Doliguez against a tough and tested rival in the person of Ramirez, a native of Mexicali, Baja. Dubbed as Negro, Ramirez boasts of an impressive 25-3 (15 knock outs) record. The Mexican firebrand isn?t alien to Filipino fight fans. He broke the heart of Rey ??Boom Boom?? Bautista last December at the University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City. The jampacked crowd roared in delight as Bautista, once the Philippines? great hope to become a world champion, downed Ramirez in the 8th round which somewhat made up the frustration of the hometown?s bet first round knockdown. Ramirez went on to win by split decision and annexed the World Boxing Organization International featherweight plum. Doliguez said he is toughened by the thought of avenging Bautista?s setback. Days after the loss, Bautista decided to retire from professional boxing. ?? I want to avenge Boom Boom?s loss by besting Ramirez.?? ??There is no doubt that Zanfer wants Doliguez to make a powerful impression in his first fight. I look forward to an exciting fight and I know that Doliguez will emerge triumphant,?? Anuran said. Anuran said big things are in store for the native of Malungon, Sarangani Province. He earlier told Philboxing that Zanfer will formally introduce Doliguez to the international boxing community after the Ramirez bout. In an exclusive interview, Doliguez, who had earlier challenged the likes of world champion Chris John and former titleholder Daud Yordan, said he is humbled by the attention ?? With the guidance of the Lord, I will bring back the glory of Philippine boxing,?? said Doliguez, who grew up under the care of his grandmother. ??I?m sure my Mamang (grandma) is very happy with what?s happening to my life,?? said Doliguez, who also thanked Anuran and the SBB staff for their support. ??If not for Boss Elmer, I will not be in this position.??
