NBA -- Paul stays, Clippers pay big bucks
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Wed, 03 Jul 2013

CHICAGO -- The Los Angeles Clippers' courtship of free agent point guard Chris Paul ended quickly on Monday when the five-time All-Star agreed to stay in Los Angeles for a five-year, $107.3 million deal.
"I'm in," tweeted Paul, who will sign his new contract on July 10, when the NBA lifts the moratorium on free agents.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Paul will make $18.7 million in the first year of the contract extension, or roughly $228, 048 per game for 82 games. Paul can also opt out on the fourth year of the proposed five-year agreement.
The 6-foot, 175-pound Paul, a product of Wake Forest, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a nine-year NBA campaigner. He has career averages of 8.6 points, 9.8 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals a game, and he led the Clippers to a 56-26 slate, giving the franchise its first-ever Pacific Division title.
Now that Paul is in long-term, the Clippers' focus shifts to re-signing their free agents -- Matt Barnes, Lamar Odom, Ryan Hollins, Ron Turiaf and Chauncey Billups. The Clippers are also reported to be interested with free agents J.J. Redick and O.J. Mayo. (Homer D. Sayson)
