Doliguez gets US visa, starts quest for world title with Mexico bout

PhilBoxing.com

THE first significant step to gain world glory has started for Filipino boxing star Jun ??Hercules?? Doliguez (16-0-1, 12 KOs) . Successful in getting a United States visa, the provincemate of ring legend Manny Pacquiao, is expected to fly to the ??Land of Promise?? as soon as possible to fight in Mexico.

??Most likely, Doliguez will fight a Mexican foe on July 20,?? said Saved by the Bell president Elmer Anuran, who is handling the career of Doliguez. SBB has combined with the internationaly-famous Zanfer Promotions to promote Doliguez in Mexico and the US.

While expressing his gratitude to Zanfer for its whole-hearted support, Anuran said Doliguez is also slated to fight in California on September.

??He (Doliguez) will be formally introduced to the international boxing community by Zanfer after the Mexico bout,?? said Anuran.

In an exclusive interview, Doliguez, who had earlier challenged the likes of world champion Chris John and former titleholder Daud Yordan, said he is humbled by the attention.

??I will do everything to become a world champion. With the guidance of the Lord, I will bring back the glory of Philippine boxing,?? said the 5-foot-7 Doliguez, who was left to the care of his late grandmother by the age of two.

??I?m sure my Mamang (grandma) is very happy with what?s happening to my life,?? said Doliguez, who also thanked Anuran and the SBB staff for their support. ??If not for Boss Elmer, I will not be in this position.??

Anuran believes that Doliguez possesses the tools to become a world champion. While his tremendous punching power is ??well-avoided?? in the featherweight class, Anuran says the work ethics and attitude of his ward are truly remarkable.

??Hercules is a very good kid,?? said Anuran, a sentiment echoed by veteran trainer Benny dela Pe?a.

Doliguez makes rigid training at the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Agoncillo, Batangas. Anuran, a respected sportsman-businessman known his grassroots sports programs, owns Touch Gloves, which provides board and lodging for aspiring world champions like Doliguez.

While pocketing the world title is on top of his dream list, Doliguez also wants to finish at least his high school studies.

??We?re very poor and I wasn?t able to finish high school. Early on my life, my Mamang tried her best to make sure that we would not go hungy. I turned to boxing to change my life. I feel that I am on the right track and will not waste the opportunities coming my way. The time of Hercules to conquer the world has started,?? concluded Doliguez.
