BANAL TOPS 'STARS OF THE FUTURE' JAN. 20
PhilBoxing.com Sun, 07 Jan 2007

WBO Asia-Pacific No. 1 Super Flyweight contender and undefeated young boxing sensation, AJ ‘Bazooka’ Banal climbs the ring for the third installment of the ‘Stars of the Future’ Boxing series on January 20, 2007 at the Mandaue Sports Complex.
Facing this time around Terdkiat Jandaeng of Thailand, Banal showcases his boxing skills in this SGG Sports Promotions mega-boxing event.
Touting a 7-2-1 win-loss-draw record, Terdkiat Jandaeng is the younger brother of WBO Asia-Pacific featherweight champion Terdsak Jandaeng and hopes to end the winning streak of the young Cebuano prospect.
Incidentally, the young Thai twice beat fellow countryman, Dechapol Bankluaygym, early in his career – the same opponent that the power-punching Banal floored in the 1st canto of their scheduled 6-rounder last March 18, 2006.
Banal, whose latest fight against Filipino destroyer, Angky Angkota last October 21, 2006 ended in a unanimous decision win, will be facing another test. Turning 18 just last month, Banal must overcome this upcoming hurdle before he leaves for the US in his first foreign sojourn.
Supporting the main event, ALA Boy Rocky Fuentes faces for the second time the tough Greg Mangan. Fuentes hopes to defeat Mangan in their second outing as their initial meeting ended in a close draw in January 2005.
Other co-supporting fights also feature Tagbilaran-native Glen Masicampo against Anton Olarte and another undefeated prospect Milan ‘Milenyo’ Melindo against veteran Fabio Marfa.
A special attraction will figure in former amateur standout, Joseph Oma?a, against Carlo Magale.
This 70-round boxing card will include four bouts as card openers – comebacking Ruben Santillanosa vs. Edward Apa-ap, Jun Intor vs. Noel Sungahid, Leon Maratas vs. Joel de la Cruz and debuting Romeo Jakosalem of Davao City vs. Romnick Rapista.
